i have a cookie weakness. i prefer homemade (of course) but i’ll settle for store-bought. yesterday, i bought two different kinds of organic cookies yesterday for less than $3/box. it was amazing. i realized that some of the things i love most about montreal are related to FOOD. so, in the spirit of having a great summer and enjoying montreal and keeping record of it all, i’m going to track all the things i love about this city.

#1 – three major farmer’s markets open all year round, that are downright heavenly in the summer
#2 – ability to find a organic “oreo” type of cookie (vanilla bean creme!) for LESS than the cost of the non-organic kind (at my local grocery store)
#3 – DELICIOUS mock meat available for sale JUST DOWN THE STREET.
#4 – there are TWO independent grocery stores (with good prices) within 90 seconds from my front door – one has amazing produce and staples and the other has subpar produce but a strange and amazing assortment of packaged foods – many of which are organic, vegetarian/vegan products (um, cheapest tempeh i’ve ever found anywhere).
#5 – four more grocery stores within 5-10 minutes walk, including a big, gigantic chain grocer for the occasional item i can’t find anywhere else (i.e. my favourite kind of soup and flatbread for pizza).
#6 – the ability to find cubes of brown cane sugar, buckwheat soba noodles, and real juice at my local grocery store at a reasonable price (no longer forcing me to pay an arm and a leg at a health food store).
